Metadata removed

-

Strip the hidden information out of a photo before you share it. A picture from a phone typically carries the GPS coordinates of where it was taken, the exact date and time, the device make and model, and sometimes the owner's name — none of which is visible when you look at the image, and all of which travels with the file. This page rewrites the image with the pixels intact and that record removed.

How it works

  1. Drop in one image or a batch.
  2. Review what was found — the viewer lists the fields present, including coordinates if there are any.
  3. Strip the metadata.
  4. Download the clean file, which looks identical and carries nothing but the picture.

Good to know

Who sees this matters more than most people expect. Large social platforms generally strip metadata when you upload, but a file sent by email, messaging app, cloud link or forum attachment usually arrives exactly as it left your device, coordinates included. A holiday photo revealing a hotel is one thing; a photo taken at home, shared with strangers, is another, and it is the single most common way a home address leaks from an image. If you want to see what is in a file before deciding, the EXIF viewer shows every field without changing anything.

Frequently asked questions

What is actually stored in a photo's metadata?

Commonly the GPS position, the date and time, the camera or phone model, the lens, the exposure settings, and the software that last saved the file. Sometimes a name or copyright line as well.

Does removing metadata change how the photo looks?

No. The pixels are untouched. Only the descriptive record attached to them is removed.

Do social networks already strip this?

The large ones usually do on upload. Files shared directly — by email, messaging app or download link — normally keep everything.

Can I see the metadata before deleting it?

Yes. The EXIF viewer lists every field found in the file, including a map link if coordinates are present, and changes nothing.
