Turn a picture the right way up, or flip it. Rotate by 90 degrees at a time for a photo that came out sideways, or set any angle you like to straighten a crooked horizon or a scanned document that went into the scanner slightly askew. The preview updates as you go, so you can see the result before downloading.

How it works

  1. Drop in your image.
  2. Rotate in 90-degree steps, or type an exact angle for fine straightening.
  3. Choose whether to expand the canvas to fit the rotated image or crop back to the original frame.
  4. Download the rotated image.

Good to know

Rotating by 90, 180 or 270 degrees is a lossless rearrangement — the pixels move but none are recalculated, so the image is exactly as good as it was. Any other angle is different: the new pixel grid does not line up with the old one, so every pixel is interpolated from its neighbours and the image softens very slightly, most visibly along hard diagonal edges. It is not something you would normally notice once, but it compounds, so it is better to straighten in a single step of 3 degrees than in three steps of 1 degree.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my phone photo appear sideways?

The camera stores the picture in the sensor orientation and records how it should be turned in an EXIF tag. Software that ignores that tag shows it sideways. Rotating here bakes the correct orientation into the pixels so every viewer gets it right.

Does rotating lose quality?

Not at 90, 180 or 270 degrees — those just rearrange pixels. At other angles the pixels are recalculated and the image softens a little.

Can I rotate several photos at once?

Yes. Drop in a batch and the same rotation is applied to all of them — the fast fix for a set of photos from a camera held sideways.

What happens to the corners when I rotate by a small angle?

Either the canvas grows to fit the tilted rectangle, leaving transparent or filled triangles at the corners, or it stays the same size and the corners are cropped. You choose which.
